{"id":578,"date":"2020-10-08T14:38:31","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T14:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drmillermeeks.com\/?p=578"},"modified":"2020-10-09T14:41:25","modified_gmt":"2020-10-09T14:41:25","slug":"u-s-chamber-of-commerce-endorses-miller-meeks-we-need-a-leader-who-will-reopen-economy-in-safe-measured-approach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drmillermeeks.com\/u-s-chamber-of-commerce-endorses-miller-meeks-we-need-a-leader-who-will-reopen-economy-in-safe-measured-approach\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ENDORSES MILLER-MEEKS: \u201cWE NEED A LEADER WHO WILL REOPEN ECONOMY IN SAFE, MEASURED APPROACH\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">DAVENPORT \u2013 The United States Chamber of Commerce, the largest business advocacy group in the world, has endorsed Republican congressional candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks in Iowa\u2019s 2nd\u00a0District.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe Chamber aims to protect free enterprise and pro-business priorities in Congress by vigorously supporting policies that advance economic growth, help create jobs, and promote fiscal responsibility,\u201d said Thomas Donahue, the Chamber\u2019s chief executive officer. \u201cLooking ahead, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce remains invested in supporting critical legislation that will drive economic growth and assist job creators.\u201d<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He told Miller-Meeks, a state senator from Ottumwa and former director of the Iowa Department of Public Health, that \u201cyour positions on these issues earned you this endorsement.\u201d<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI am proud to accept this endorsement, and I will always fight for U.S. businesses and workers,\u201d Miller-Meeks said. \u201cIowans and Americans are suffering from the current shutdown of our economy. We need leaders in Congress who will work to reopen our economy in a safe and measured approach. I am the only candidate in this race that has a plan to safely reopen our economy, and I believe this endorsement reflects that.\u201d<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Miller-Meeks is an ophthalmologist and a 24-year U.S. Army veteran representing Senate District 41 in the Iowa Senate, which includes Davis, Jefferson, Van Buren, and Wapello counties. She is seeking the seat vacated by U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack, a seven-term Democratic congressman. After 14 years of Democrat control, Iowa\u2019s 2nd Congressional District is now rated as a \u201ctoss-up,\u201d according to national political forecasters.
