OTTUMWA – Coming off a decisive primary win, Republican congressional candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ campaign continued its fundraising momentum in the second quarter of 2020 with its largest fundraising quarter to date, bringing in $351,909 and ending June with $504,281 cash on hand, according to her latest federal election report.
“I am humbled and honored to see the support our campaign has been gathering across the 2nd District,” Miller-Meeks said. “Iowans are stressed and anxious. They’re looking for leaders who set aside the partisan gamesmanship in Washington D.C., and put them first. As a doctor, I will fight tooth and nail for Iowans as we move forward through the COVID-19 pandemic. And, as a small business owner, I will make sure that we do not leave behind a single Iowa business owner or worker as we build a new and stronger economy.”
The campaign raised $351,909.97 during the quarter and had $504,281.61 cash on hand on June 30.
Miller-Meeks is an ophthalmologist and a 24-year U.S. Army veteran who represents Iowa Senate District 41, which includes Davis, Jefferson, Van Buren and Wapello counties. She is seeking the seat vacated by Rep. Dave Loebsack, a seven-term Democratic congressman. After 14 years of Democrat control, Iowa’s 2nd district is now rated as a “toss-up,” according to national political forecasters. Of the 32 congressional districts won by Trump and held by Democrats, Iowa’s Second District is the only open seat.
The National Republican Congressional Committee and the Republican-aligned Congressional Leadership Fund also have reserved $3.9 million in fall advertising for the 2nd District.
