OTTUMWA – Today Mariannette Miller-Meeks, a Republican candidate for Congress, released the following statement to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday:

“Today, I join Iowans and all Americans in the celebration of the life, lessons, and message of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He moved the country towards common values and the common perseverance for decency and equality. His legacy can still be felt today in the record number of African-Americans running for office and holding office, but we still have a long way to go in fighting injustices and racism. I’ve always revered Dr. King’s never-quit attitude and unwavering belief in his convictions and faith. I think we can all take to heart what he championed and emulate that in our actions for the strongest democracy in our country’s history.”
