OTTUMWA – Today, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced his endorsement of Mariannette Miller-Meeks for Congress in the 2nd District.
“Miller-Meeks has a never-quit attitude that she shares with the thousands of farmers and producers in our state,” Naig said. “She has been outspoken about Iowa’s ethanol and biodiesel industries that supports so many in our state and in her district. We need a tough fighter like Miller-Meeks in Congress to be a voice on issues important to our farmers and producers: biofuels, trade, workforce challenges, the United States Mexico Canada Agreement, and more. These hardworking Iowans are the backbone of our economy, and Miller-Meeks will never quit fighting for our farm families and rural communities.”
“I’m grateful for Secretary Naig’s leadership on so many issues of importance to Iowans and his support for my candidacy,” said Miller-Meeks, a Republican state senator from Ottumwa. “As I travel the 2nd Congressional district and talk with my constituents, I see firsthand their work ethic, dedication, and perseverance. Those qualities are what we need in our congressional members, and I believe I’m the best leader to represent their interests because I share those values, too. I will never quit fighting for Iowa’s biofuels industry, for fair trade deals, for the passage of the USMCA, and for strong policies that support our farmers and producers.”
Secretary Naig was elected to office in 2018 after serving as deputy secretary of agriculture under Bill Northey since 2013. In her first year as a state senator, Miller-Meeks supported pro-ag legislation, including the expansion of the beginning farmer tax credit, regulation of industrial hemp and legalization of the “ag-gag” law.
