SEN. TOM GREENE, BURLINGTON REPUBLICAN, ENDORSES MILLER-MEEKS FOR CONGRESS

BURLINGTON – State Sen. Tom Greene, a Republican representing SD44, announced October 4 that he is endorsing Sen. Mariannette Miller-Meeks in the 2nd Congressional District race.

Greene, a lifelong Republican and Burlington native, beat former Sen. Tom Courtney in 2016 after Courtney held the seat for 16 years. Greene is a retired pharmacist and worked alongside Miller-Meeks in a Burlington hospital years ago.

“I have known Mariannette for over a decade. I know her as someone who has honorably served our country, who has cared for her patients and has never quit fighting for Iowans in the state senate,” said Greene. “I’ve seen her up close and that’s why I’m proud to support her. I consider her not just a colleague but a friend and I look forward to calling her my Congresswoman.”

Miller-Meeks’ campaign held a kickoff event with Greene at The Drake in downtown Burlington Friday morning in front of supporters and voters.

“I’m proud to have Senator Greene’s support as I launch this campaign,” said Miller-Meeks. “He is no stranger to tough races and tough fights. I am honored to call him a fellow confidant at the statehouse and a friend while we worked together serving patients in Burlington.”

Miller-Meeks announced her candidacy as a Republican for the 2nd Congressional District on October 1. Miller-Meeks is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. An ophthalmologist and former president of the Iowa Medical Society, in 2018, she was elected by the voters of Senate District 41 to fight for them in the Iowa State Senate.
